Beck To Cover INXS
With Liars, Os Mutantes and more
American songwriter Beck is set to cover an entire album by INXS with a little help from Liars, Os Mutantes and more.
Beck has always been extremely production. Back in his anti-folk days the singer would carve out an album every week, twisting and turning America's legacy of traditional music into intensely surreal new shapes.
Taking time off writing original material, Beck announced last year that he was launching a 'Record Club'. Gathering a group of friends the singer takes on rock classics, posting the results for free on his website.
In the past Beck has covered albums by The Velvet Underground and more, with the singer now due to cover INXS. The Australian group's 1987 album 'Kick' is due to go under the microscope with some assistance from some well known faces.
Record Club 4 will feature New York group Liars. Now based in Los Angeles, the post-punk trio recently completed work on their new album 'Sisterworld'.
One of the band's most contrary and ground-breaking statements yet, the album has won acclaim for its exploration of the barriers people build just to get through life.
Dropping by the studio to blast through some INXS covers, Beck also roped in St Vincent and Sergio Dias of Os Mutantes. The Brazilian are perhaps the ultimate cult favourites, mixing psych-rock with South American rhythms under a controversial military regime.
The results of 'Record Club 4' are due to be posted online soon, with a new track becoming available every week. First track 'Guns In The Sky' is available now.
