Beatles Rock Band Game Arrives

It's finally here...

Fans will soon be able to step into the shoes of one of the planet's biggest groups when The Beatles: Rock Band is released later this year.

The Beatles were quite a big deal back in the day. Forming at a time when British rock 'n' roll had about as much credibility as a Lady Gaga B-side, the band turned popular culture on its head and re-defined what entertainers could do.

Four lads from Liverpool, the band began life playing rock 'n' roll in the city's Cavern club before becoming a national sensation. Their clean cut image belied the sheer visceral thrill of their music, which blended early rock 'n' roll with rhythm and blues and even a touch of Motown.

Beatlemania spread across the globe, with the band keen to challenge themselves artistically. Later retiring from live appearances the group would concentrate on studio work, refining many of the techniques that modern acts take for granted.

The Beatles split in 1970, and according to some the world has been going steadily downhill since. Singer John Lennon was shot dead in 1980, while lead guitarist George Harrison died of cancer in 2001.

Well now fans can brush away those tears, with Rock Band unveiling their latest instalment, featuring none other than the Fab Four. Created in partnership with Apple Records, the latest Rock Band game takes fans on a journey through the Fab Four's career.

Coming complete with specially designed controllers to mimic the band's instruments - McCartney's Hofner bass, Lennon's Rickenbacker etc - the game seem to have paid attention to even the most minute of details.

Between songs fans can listen to genuine recordings of the band talking between takes in Abbey Road. Though hopefully they didn't use out-takes from the famously fraught sessions that lead to The White Album - after all, kids could be playing.

The game will also feature three part harmony, allowing you and your friends to trample all over the studio recordings of 'Eleanor Rugby' and 'Hey Jude'. Featuring a total of 45 songs, the game is due to be expanded, with plans afoot to allow users to download The Beatles' final album 'Abbey Road'.
