Beatles Re-Unite

McCartney and Starr perform together

The last two surviving members of legendary British group The Beatles have performed together onstage in New York.

Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr took to the stage together for the first time in decades. Following the dissolution of The Beatles in 1970 the musicians shied away from collaborating together onstage and on record.

However the two have worked together before, with Starr's brief solo career in the 70s benefiting from McCartney's help.

The last time McCartney and Starr performed together onstage was seven years ago at a tribute concert for their late bandmate George Harrison, but the pair were keen to show their support at a charity show for the David Lynch Foundation, which aims to promote meditation in schools.

The two gave a rare webcast together on Friday (April 3rd) to promote the work of the charity, and joined in an all star charity concert in New York that night.

McCartney played a handful of Beatles songs before bringing Ringo Starr onstage to perform 'With A Little Help From My Friends' - which Starr sang vocals on way back in 1967.

McCartney also paid tribute to John Lennon with an emotional rendition of 'Here Today', a song written in the aftermath of the musician's death. The singer also dedicated 'Blackbird' to Barack Obama, with the song frequently cited as a tribute to the American Civil Rights movement.
