Beach Break Location Crisis

Cornish event faces cancellation

Cornwall's student only bash Beach Break Live faces cancellation after being refused permission to use its planned site.

Beach Break Live combines music with water sports to create a unique summer event. Gathering some top names, festival goers could well find themselves water ski-ing alongside the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Friendly Fires.

Which would be nice! Taking place in St Agnes in Cornwall, the weekend long event has been plunged into crisis after organisers were refused permission to use their usual site.

Beach Break Live was refused permission to use its proposed site by the local council in a meeting on May 27th. Left without a site to host the event, organisers are currently investigating alternative locations.

Hugely popular, Breach Break Live is long since sold out. Organisers have taken every precaution to work with the authorities, and have been left thoroughly bewildered by the council's actions.

In a statement organisers said:

"In short we’ve been professionally shafted. By who and why we’re not quite sure. The decision has caused a divide within the council itself with a number of senior officials arguing that the decision has been unjust and that Beach Break Live has been caught in a political minefield just before the elections and in the current merge of the various Cornish Councils to One Cornwall."

"Obviously, it’s a blow but not one we won’t bounce back from. We’ve worked very hard to design an event that works in peace with the local area and whilst the Council’s decision has gone against the interests of the ticket holder, artists, charities, thousands employed by the event, countless businesses that stood to benefit, the wider community and an already struggling local and regional economy – we will not go quietly in to the night."

"In the wise words of The Beastie Boys ‘You have to fight, for your right, to party!’ and party we will!"

With organisers promising to refund ticket holders if the event is cancelled, fans have made the priority by those behind the festival.

Acts due to play Beach Break Live include Dizzee Rascal, Friendly Fires, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Mystery Jets and many more.

Beach Break Live is scheduled to take place between June 16th - 19th.
