Badly Drawn Boy Working On Soundtrack

For new Caroline Aherne film

Manchester based songwriter Badly Drawn Boy has confirmed plans to release a new soundtrack album next month.

Badly Drawn Boy epitomised the lo-fi movement in the late 90s. Ten years ago technology was beginning to impact upon the music industry, with recording equipment cheap enough to install in your bedroom.

A host of songwriters emerged, blending plaintive strains with the sound of traffic outside their room. Badly Drawn Boy was foremost among these, effortlessly making the switch between indie and major label.

However the songwriter has been inactive since the release of 'Born In The UK' in 2006. A recollection of growing up in the UK, it was promoted with a very small British tour with all profits being donated to Oxfam.

Since then, Badly Drawn Boy has been focussing his energies outside the music industry. However a web posting earlier this year promised new music from the singer: "Damon is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to a very exciting new project which will be reaching your eardrums in the very near future"

Now it has been confirmed that Badly Drawn Boy will release the new soundtrack album 'Is There Nothing We Can Do' next month. The music will accompany a forthcoming TV film written by Caroline Aherne and Jeff Pope named 'The Fattest Man In Britain'.

Due to premiere in December the new movie stars Timothy Spall. This isn't the first time Badly Drawn Boy has worked on a soundtrack, crafting an album of songs to accompany the 2002 adaptation of Nick Hornby's bloke-lit classic 'About A Boy'.

Badly Drawn Boy is set to release 'Is There Nothing We Can Do' on December 14th.
