Bad Lieutenant UK Tour
New dates from Sumner & Co.
New Order's Bernard Sumner is set to launch his new group Bad Lieutenant with a series of UK tour dates.
Whisper it, but New Order could well rank among the most influential British groups of all time. Breaking free of their post-punk origins the band embraced emerging electronic music, the twelve inch format and remixing almost a decade before their peers.
Add into this the group's involvement with the Hacienda and you get a potent musical brew. However New Order have been put to one side after bass player Peter Hook left / was pushed - depending on who you believe.
Never one to rest on his laurels for long, singer Bernard Sumner has formed a new group. Bad Lieutenant feature former New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham, drummer Stephen Morris and newcomer Jake Evans.
Much more acoustic in style than New Order it is nonetheless thrilling to hear Sumner's voice again. New material is currently streaming from the group's MySpace page, and bodes well for their upcoming debut album.
Recorded earlier this year, debut long player 'Never Cry Another Tear' is due to be released on October 5th. Blur bass player Alex James contributed to the new album, but has decided to sit out the group's tour.
Bad Lieutenant have even earned plaudits from Peter Hook. Since departing New Order the bass player has been at loggerheads with his former cohorts, with both parties blaming each other for the split.
Hook has busied himself with a new book, however. The bass player's tome 'The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club' will be released later this year, once lawyers give it the once over for any potential libel claims.
Bad Lieutenant are due to release their debut album 'Never Cry Another Tear' on October 5th. The band have confirmed the following tour dates:
October
20 Brighton Digital
21 London Heaven
22 Manchester Ritz
