Babyshambles Cancel Festival Date

Pete Doherty unable to play

Indie group Babyshambles have been forced to pull out of a festival in France due to singer Pete Doherty being unable to play.

Babyshambles were formed out of the ashes of The Libertines. Singer Pete Doherty gathered some close friends around him and set about making music. At first more of a shambles, as time has progressed the group have become an acclaimed unit with second album 'Shotter's Nation' being praised by critics.

However the band members seem to be content to work on solo projects right now. Pete Doehrty is due to release his new album 'Grace / Wastelands' while drummer Adam Ficek has recorded as Roses Kings Castles.

Babyshambles were due to play a set at the Allez Les Jeunes Festival in Rouen, but were forced to pull out. In a Twitter message to fans, Adam Ficek apologised to fans left disappointed by the group's late announcement.

"Awoke. Feeling shattered. Get in Cab. Get a message. Today's Babyshambles festival is off. Peter tired. I go Back to bed. Gutted! Sorry," he wrote.

Later Ficek posted another message, again saying how disappointed he was at not being able to play the festival.

"Feeling disappointed, should be in France playing to loads of Babyshambles fans."

Due to the variety of projects individual members are undertaking, bassist Drew McConnell is already at the festival - he is performing with his other band Mongrel.

Babyshambles are scheduled to play the Garorock 2009 festival in Marmande tomorrow - it is not known if they will make the date.
