Babyshambles Banned
Police Take Exception To Doherty And Co.
Babyshambles have been sensationally banned from appearing at the Moonfest event, after police invoked Section 160 of the Licensing Act (2003) for the first time in British legal history.
Pete Doherty and co. were due to play the Wiltshire event until local police began to become fearful of the effect the band would have on the crowd. Wiltshire police claim the band's onstage routine would incite violence in the crowd, with Chief Superintendent Julian Kirby describing the Babyshambles live show in the following terms:
"What he does as part of his routine is to gee up the crowd. They speed up and then slow down the music and create a whirlpool effect in the crowd."
Police presented their findings to North Wiltshire Magistrates court, who then ordered the festival organisers to cancel any appearance from Babyshambles or Doherty himself.
It is believed that only 150 tickets for the event had been sold, with the site set to have ten employed stewards. It is not known if the event, scheduled for August 29th - 31st, will continue.
