ATP Vs The Fans – Clash Is Back

A quick summary of our highs...

Clash is back from our weekend’s adventures at All Tomorrow’s Parties: Vs The Fans Part II, and while we’re not exactly firing on all cylinders just yet, we have caught up on much of our missed sleep.

A full web report on the festival – featuring bands chosen by the attending ‘fans’ – will run later this week on ClashMusic.com, but for now, here’s a list of our highs from the Minehead-held three-dayer:

Devo: Oh our goodnesses, what a stirring, exhilarating set on the Friday night, complete with outfit changes, plenty of synchronised moves, those hats and a succession of sing-along-happy classics. (Read our review from London HERE.)

Sleep: Reformed exclusively for ATP, the stoner legends were Clash dep ed Matt’s band of the weekend. Online ed Mike wishes he could remember anything from their Saturday night set, but sadly the Good Times had taken a firm hold. The one memory: it was loud.

Harvey Milk: As were the phenomenal Harvey Milk, probably Mike’s band of the weekend. Their Centre Stage set was the loudest thing we heard all weekend – beating even the mighty Sleep.

Errors: What a difference a whole heap of touring makes – when we first saw the Scottish foursome way back when, their electro-goes-post-rock didn’t flick every switch on a live front, but at ATP Errors were majestic, turning Reds into a writhing pit of revelry.

The Jesus Lizard: How a man nearing 50 can possess more energy than entire bands made up of younger souls is beyond us, but David Yow was never less than possessed during the legendary grungers’ brace of Centre Stage sets on Saturday and Sunday… ‘Puss’, ‘Gladiator’ and more were rocked out to for the first time since their break up in 1999. (Read our interview HERE.)

Also delivering amazing sets: Parts & Labor, Future of the Left (best banter of the weekend), Grails, This Will Destroy You, M83, Sleepy Sun, The Mae Shi, Lords, Grizzly Bear, and more…

We should also say that much fun was had DJing on the Sunday night – it’s not every day you spark a minor stage invasion by playing Bruce Springsteen. Happy to be of service.
