Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they are working on new material, which should see the light of day this year.
Arctic Monkeys are an enigma. An extremely British group - in terms of sound, outlook and slang - the band seem to be focussing their efforts on the United States. Recording their previous studio album 'Humbug' on the other side of the pond, it seems that the Sheffield group are plotting their next move.
Chatting to the NME backstage at the NME Awards, drummer Matt Helders was asked what he had been up to recently. "I have been in the desert… with motorcycles. Not with Josh [Homme], no. The band's just been working together, the band working on our own so far, writing and stuff."
Continuing, the drummer said: "There's no time deadlines or anything like that for release. We're just getting back into it, because it always takes a while to get back into it."
Asked what the material sounded like, Matt Helders said simply: "2013".
Expanding on this somewhat, the drummer said: "Well, we'd be stupid if we made a 2013 album and released it next year."
Here's previous single 'R U Mine'.
