Arctic Monkeys Top Charts

'Humbug' hits number one

Returning Sheffield indie giants Arctic Monkeys have swept to number one with their new album 'Humbug'.

Arctic Monkeys are one of the biggest bands in the country. Actually, with Oasis crippled by the departure of songwriter Noel Gallagher the Sheffield group may actually be THE biggest band in Britain today.

Retreating to California to work on their third album the band returned to Blighty with a clutch of ambitious new songs and an intriguing new friendship. Drummer Matt Helders bonded with rapper P Diddy after meeting him at a party.

The hip hop icon has now become the group's biggest supporter, recently urging his fans to go out and buy the new Arctic Monkeys album. It seems that P Diddy's advice could have had an affect with the record scoring massive first week sales.

In one of the best first week performances of the year so far Arctic Monkeys swept to number one, outselling the rest of the Top Five combined. 'Humbug' has scored sensational reviews, you can read ClashMusic's verdict HERE!

Arctic Monkeys celebrated their victory with stunning headline performances at Reading and Leeds over the weekend.

Following on the group's heels on the album chart is dance don David Guetta, while Scottish producer Calvin Harris is continuing to prove his critics wrong with new album 'Ready For The Weekend'.

Further down the charts there is evidence that posthumous Jacko mania is on the slide, with Michael Jackson's 'The Essential' slipping down to number eight.

The UK's Top Ten albums are:

1. Arctic Monkeys – 'Humbug'
2. David Guetta – 'One Love'
3. Calvin Harris – 'Ready For The Weekend'
4. Black Eyed Peas – 'The END'
5. Tinchy Stryder – 'Catch 22'
6. Paolo Nutini – 'Sunny Side Up'
7. Beyonce – 'I Am... Sasha Fierce'
8. Michael Jackson – 'The Essential'
9. James Morrison – 'Songs For You Truths For Me'
10. Florence And The Machine – 'Lungs'
