Arctic Monkeys LP Almost Finished
Matt Helders on new album
Phew! It's a busy news day for fans of Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.
Not only is the musician helping to organise and curate the Tramlines festival in his hometown, but the frozen sapiens are close to completing their eagerly awaited third album.
Arctic Monkeys released their era-defining, record breaking debut album 'Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' in 2006. Swiftly following this with the Mercury nominated sequel 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' the band became one of the biggest in the country, playing to packed arenas the length and breadth of the country.
The band have take time off to rest after such a hectic schedule. Drummer Matt Helders has been with the group since their inception, but has recently been focussing on some dancefloor excursions.
Remixing groups like The Hives, Helders also compiled an 'All Back To Mine' compilation and DJ'd at a Clash party in Barcelona. After re-uniting with his band mates, Arctic Monkeys began work on their third album with Queens Of The Stone Age singer Josh Homme at the controls.
Eagerly anticipated, Matt Helders recently told BBC 6Music that the album was "nearly" ready, but added that "we haven't picked titles or anything."
"It's just a case of tying it up now, picking what order everything's in."
Helders has also been working on the Tramlines project, with fellow curators including Jon 'The Reverend' McClure and dancehall guru Toddla T. Amongst the acts confirmed for the four day event is hotly tipped electro pop starlet Little Boots.
The drummer seemed enthusiastic about the project. "A lot of the time, if you go to a big festival, you've paid for your ticket and know who you want to watch, whereas here you might just walk around and check things out because you've got nothing else to do," said Helders.
"So it's things like that, they're all little simple things that will influence people I think."
Arctic Monkeys are scheduled to release their third album in August.
