Arctic Monkeys Hit T In The Park
Miles Kane, Tom Jones also appear
Sheffield giants Arctic Monkeys have closed an action packed first day at T In The Park.
With the warm weather holding firm, T In The Park got some air into its lungs with a show-stopping set from The View. However the Main Stage was set to receive some old fashioned show-business with the arrival of Tom Jones.
Looking refined with a short grey haircut the Welsh crooner introduced his band before launching into 'Burning Hell'. Taken from his recent, stripped back album the roots feel would dominate the opening portion of the set.
The band are undoubtedly tight, but the crowd held its breath for some hits. Launching into 'Delilah' and 'You Can Leave Your Hat On' Tom Jones had the crowd in the palm of his hand, before playing a final rendition of the Prince classic 'Kiss'.
An enormous queue snaked its way around the Red Bull tent, with Miles Kane making the crowd wait for his arrival. Bounding onstage to a hero's welcome, the Scouse songbird threw everything into the set.
Pushing the crowd further and further, his cherry red 335 launched feedback around the tent. Stopping for a cover of 'Hey Bulldog' Miles Kane ended the set in style with future single 'Inhaler'.
White Lies play the Radio 1 stage to a massive crowd, leading them in a singalong of first album standout 'Death'. Meanwhile, Plan B entertains the Main Stage - at one point playing a dubstep / beatbox version of 'Stand By Me'.
With the sun coming down, the stage was set for Arctic Monkeys. Emerging at a very prompt time, the Sheffield crew kicked off with 'Library Pictures' to the delight of fans.
The set turned into a showcase of sorts for their new album 'Suck It And See' although the band did through in a few old favourites. Drummer Matt Helders took the vocals for 'Brick By Brick' before Alex Turner reclaimed his ground for a moody rendition of 'Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair'.
