Arctic Monkeys For Film
Sheffield band star in 'Le Donk'
Arctic Monkeys are set to play a small part in the forthcoming film 'Le Donk', directed by celebrated realist film maker Shane Meadows.
Based on the story of an ex-drummer-turned-roadie named Donk, the guerrilla film follows the roadie (Donk, played by Paul Considine) as he attempts to transform the life of real-life Nottingham rapper Scorz-Ayz-Ee, by making him into a star.
Along the way, the duo get a helping hand from Arctic Monkeys as well as 50,000 of their fans at the band's 2007 Lancashire County Cricket Club (Old Trafford) gigs, during which some of the movie was filmed.
Filmed for only £30,000, much of the film is thought to be improvised, with no budget or script at the time of filming. Meadows previously also directing acclaimed features such as This Is England and 2004's chilling revenge tale Dead Man's Shoes.
Writing on his Shanemeadows Forum, the director added: "A couple of months back I was asked to get involved with shooting a film with the Artic Monkeys at their Old Trafford concert (Happening over the last weekend of July). I didn't really see myself making a concert film on a par with woodstock, so declined, but after talking to Paddy about how gutted I was that we have never made anything with the charactor of "Donk' the penny dropped and I realised that we had a golden platform for 'Le Donk' staring us in the face."
Here's a triler for 'Le Donk', the film premieres in Edinburgh later this month, read about Arctic Monkeys' new album on Clash Music HERE.
