"It's quite early days yet..."
Arctic Monkeys recently went back into the studio, with work continuing on album #5.
Arctic Monkeys seem to be gripped by some manic energy right now. The indie group released two albums within 18 months of one another, before recording a brand new single for Record Store Day.
'R U Mine?' and 'Electricity' delighted fans, with the band seemingly laying down one extra - and as yet unreleased - track. Speaking to Q, Matt Helders revealed that Alex Turner recorded the song as a solo effort.
"Alex went back to the studio in Sheffield to do the vocal for one of them (Record Store Day tracks) and ended-up doing this other song that none of us have heard" he said. "It's from a riff Nick (O'Malley) came up with."
Elsewhere, Matt Helders discussed the work Arctic Monkeys have already completed for their proposed fifth album. "We don't think about where and when we're going to record, but I don't think any of us have got their hearts set on having a year off, or anything like that. It doesn't feel like that at the moment."
The drummer continued: "I think this tour ends 19 May and then we've got one festival in Atlantic City at the end of June, so that's the last show we're doing and then after that it's up for grabs whether we go back in the studio or not. It's not like we've written loads on tour, it's some ideas and riffs flying around, things we've put together in soundchecks, but you don't get much of a soundcheck when you're a support band!"
Meanwhile, Nick O'Malley has been chatting with Spinner about recent recording sessions. "It's quite early days yet" he insisted. "We've not really got any songs for it at all, so it's difficult to say what the record will be like. But we're enjoying playing sort of fast songs at the minute, so maybe that'll be an indication that it may go that way."
