U2, Spike Jonze, Bruce Broughton competing for awards...

The biggest ceremony on the cinematic calendar, the Academy awards includes recognition of the work done by musicians in this field.

Returning on March 2nd, the nominations for the 2014 Academy awards have just been announced - and the music quota is extremely Clash-friendly. Arcade Fire and Owen Pallett have received a nod for their work on the Spike Jonze flick 'Her'.

Nominated for 'Best Original Score' the Canadian musicians will be competing against the scores for 'Gravity', 'Saving Mr. Banks' and more.

Elsewhere, Karen O and Spike Jonze have been jointly nominated for 'The Moon Song'. Taken from 'Her' the track is nominated in the 'Best Original Song' category - Karen O supplied the music while director Jonze sketched out the lyrics.

The category also contains contributions from Pharell Williams ('Happy', which featured in 'Despicable Me 2'), U2 ('Ordinary Love', which featured in 'Mandela'), Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel, Kristen Anderson-Lopez/Robert Lopez' and more.

The full list of nominations can be found HERE.
