Animal Collective On New EP

American giants Animal Collective have spoken exclusively to ClashMusic about the success they have enjoyed this year.

Animal Collective have remained on the fringes of modern rock music almost since their inception. Sure, albums such as 'Strawberry Jam' may have scored well with critics but the band's head-spinning psych-rock seemed destined to remain on the sidelines.

However the release of 'Merriweather Post Pavillion' earlier this year seemed to catapult the band to undreamt of levels of success. Animal Collective stunned fans with one of the decade's most forward thinking albums.

Strangely, though, this left field statement was an enormous success. Reaching the Top Twenty on the Billboard charts Animal Collective recently spoke to ClashMusic about their breakthrough year.

"I mean we were really pleased with the record but then we’ve been pleased with records we’ve made before, but that kind of chart success came out of nowhere" singer Panda Bear revealed.

The album has come at a time of great success for independent rock in the United States. Asked if Animal Collective would have been as big a decade ago, the singer seemed uncertain.

"I would guess not. It’s hard to say. I think it would have been more difficult. But at the same time I’m really blown away by the amount of success that we have had. I can’t quite figure out."

Animal Collective are set to follow their acclaimed album with a new EP. Titled 'Fall Be Kind' the new release the material apparently didn't fit in with 'Merriweather Post Pavillion'.

"They were the songs we didn’t think worked once we had done the initial run-through – they were the songs which we didn’t think worked as well as a group as the others. But they worked really well as their own little group" revealed Panda Bear.
