Amy Winehouse Dropped by Quincy Jones

Star won't be on tribute album

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has been dropped from the upcoming Quincy Jones tribute album, after missing the deadline to hand in her track.

Amy Winehouse may never again scale the heights she enjoyed with 'Back To Black'. One of the decade's most defining releases, Winehouse inspired a rash of copycat artists as labels scrambled to replicate her success.

Far from an overnight success, her debut album 'Frank' was perhaps unjustly overlooked before a collaboration with New York based producer resulted in chart gold. However the singer's professional success was met with personal trauma, as she endured a painful relationship to, and subsequent divorce from, Blake Fielder-Civil.

Now three years on from the release of 'Back To Black', many of her fans are wondering if we will ever see Amy Winehouse back where she belongs - onstage entertaining crowds of admirers.

Quincy Jones is one of the most respected men in the recording industry. Earning his trade on some classic jazz releases, Jones then began working with soul and funk artists, helping to arrange some of Michael Jackson's most iconic hits.

Without doubt one of most important figures in the modern music industry, Quincy Jones was entrusted with arranging his own tribute album and chose to personally invite Amy Winehouse.

However British tabloid The Mirror is reporting that the singer has missed the deadline to hand in her track. Winehouse had been scheduled to record with her one time musical cohort Mark Ronson, but it seems that this will not now happen.

"The track isn't finished and she's not around," Ronson is quoted as saying. "If she's not here then, unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it."

The newspaper quotes an anonymous source as saying "basically after Amy's horrendous gig in St Lucia, and then pulling out of the Island 50th Birthday gig, everyone realised she wasn't going to get it together.

"Quincy Jones is one of the most respected men in the music industry, so it was a huge honour for Amy to be asked to record for him."

"To snub him is a big no-no. The frustrating thing is what there is of the track sounds really good, but it looks like no-one will ever get to hear it."

Amy Winehouse is currently on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. The singer has reportedly been working on new material, and is said to be entranced by reggae and other Caribbean rhythms.

However the singer's health has been suspect for some time, with Amy Winehouse being rushed to hospital last week - the second time in a month the singer has fallen ill.
