Amazon Price Error

Albums for only 29p

Music retail giant Amazon have been left with a red face after a blunder left several top albums on sale for only 29p.

The growth in online music has changed the industry forever. Sure, it may be a decade since the Napster but debate still rages on how record labels should approach the net. A recent government report stated that the only way to combat illegal downloads was to offer a better, cheap alternative.

Well Amazon have certainly cornered the 'cheap' aspect recently. The web based firm are one of the biggest online music retailers, and shocked fans recently after unwittingly slashing the prices on top albums.

For four hours fans could buy the likes of 'Because Of The Times' by Kings Of Leon, or Lily Allen's 'It's Not Me, It's You' for only 29p. Joining the mark down party were the likes of MGMT, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bruce Springsteen and many more.

If only we had known! ClashMusic are noted fans of 'Because Of The Times', with the album winning pole position in our run down of the best albums in 2007.

In a statement, Amazon said: "We can confirm that yesterday there was a pricing error on a small number of MP3 albums. This issue has been rectified. Despite our best efforts, with the millions of items available on our website, pricing errors can occur."

The error had led to suggestions that the charts would have to be altered. However BBC Newsbeat reports that there were not enough hits to make a significant difference to Sunday's countdown.

The error has now been rectified, but not before some music fans gorged themselves on the cut price delights.

BBC reports the experiences of 'Dan From Selby'...

"I was just looking at CDs," he says, "I just sort of found the song that I wanted and the song was 69p and the album was 29p, so I just clicked it and downloaded it."

"I bought Black Eyed Peas, Calvin Harris - altogether I got about 10 - spent about £2.99 on 10 CDs when it should have cost me 60 or 70 quid, so it was quite good."
