Adele Fails To Gain Number One Slot

Swedish House Mafia grab pole position

Adele’s Bond theme single ‘Skyfall’ has been denied the number one slot for the second week running by Swedish House Mafia.

Is the Bond theme cursed? Believe it or not, but the vastly successful franchise has never produced a number one single in the UK, despite the likes of Duran Duran, Madonna and countless others producing theme songs. Stepping into the breach, many felt that Adele would be an easy way to change this somewhat bizarre pattern.

Yet for the second week in a row the singer has been held off the top spot, with Swedish House Mafia claiming the top spot. Adele takes second place, with ‘Skyfall’ now equalling Duran Duran’s ‘A View To A Kill’ for the highest charting Bond single. (via Official Chart Company)

Over on the albums chart, the Top Ten is packed with big hitters. After a quiet summer a number of large commercial releases has come flooding out, with Mumford & Sons retaining the number one slot for a second week. ‘Babel’ has fought off competition from Ellie Goulding, with Muse making do with third place.

Emili Sande remains at number five with ‘Our Version Of Events’ while The Killers are at number six with ‘Battle Born’. Astonishingly, Jeff Lyne has three albums in the Top Ten: one under his own name, and two ‘Best Of’ compilations with ELO.

The current UK Top Ten albums are:

1. Mumford & Sons – Babel

2. Ellie Goulding – Halcyon

3. Muse – The 2nd Law

4. P!nk – The Truth About Love

5. Emili Sande – Our Version Of Events

6. The Killers – Battle Born

7. Jeff Lynne – Long Wave

8. ELO – Mr Blue Sky – The Very Best Of

9. All Time Low – Don't Panic

10. ELO – All Over The World – The Very Best Of
