1990s Cancel North American Dates
'Unforeseen circumstances' cited
Scottish indie favourites 1990s have been forced to cancel their forthcoming dates in North America, due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.
Glasgow has now swapped Buckfast guzzling drunkards for stripy t-shirt wearing, novelty glasses adorned indie hipsters. 1990s grew out of legendary lost group The Yummy Fur, whose number once included Alex Kapranos - later to find fame as a member of Franz Ferdinand.
Combining wiry Velvet Underground guitars and acerbic lyrics - "my cult status keeps me fucking your wife" anyone? - the group have become favourites with music fans. A warm and friendly live act, the band were snapped up by seminal indie stable Rough Trade.
Debut album 'Cookies' was released to acclaim in 2007, before second album 'Kicks' dropped earlier this year. A stunning collection of sharp witted indie anthems, the album was buoyed by production from former Suede guitar plucker Bernard Butler.
Cult heroes in Britain the band are bizarrely huge in Scandinavia. 1990s often tell stories of being swamped by teenage fans, who sometimes camp outside of their hotel rooms. Bet you wished you stuck with them now, Alex Kapranos!
The band toured earlier this year, before playing Dot To Dot festival in Nottingham last weekend. 1990s were due to fly out to the United States later this week, but have now been forced to cancel their North American tour.
1990s bassist Dino Bardot told fans in a message on the group's official website:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances we’ve had to postpone our upcoming US tour. We feel really dreadful about this… Our apologies to everyone who was looking forward to coming along and seeing us… Hopefully we’ll be able to rearrange for later on in the year… We’ll update you here when we can… Dino”
The tour was due to be 1990s most extensive to date. Opening in Philadelphia on May 27th the band's tour bus was set to wind its way through the United States before skipping across the border to Canada.
A long drive back to Los Angeles awaited 1990s with the tour set to climax with a show in the city's Echo venue.
Of course, these will all have to be re-arranged with an announcement expected from 1990s later in the year.
