Beatles Interview Discovered

Tape Features George Harrison

An interview featuring The Beatles' late guitarist George Harrison has been uncovered, with experts predicting that the tape could be worth as much as £200,000.

The find is the latest in a number of rare Beatles artifacts uncovered this year, ranging from film of the band playing in Kansas to a hospital log featuring the signature of 'E. Rigby'.

The interview was conducted in 1967 by BBC journalist Miranda Ward. Film director David Lambert uncovered the recordings while doing research.

"George, being known as the quiet Beatle, was interviewed about his part in the famous film by The Beatles called 'Magical Mystery Tour'," he said. "It was only a brief chat about that, but during the interview he went on and discussed all aspects of life and the way he viewed it at the time.

"It was really the meaning of life according to George Harrison in 1967. He covers all aspects of things, the Eastern mysticism, he was very involved at the time with the Maharishi," he added.

Scots indie rockers The Fratellis are set to release their new Christmas themed single 'A Heady Tale' on December 22nd, it has been announced.

The band have had a busy year releasing their second album 'Here We Stand' and touring the UK. The festival favorites journeyed the nation, rocking crowds with their string of hit singles, including the love-it-or-hate-it anthem 'Chelsea Dagger'.

Singer John Fratelli told Scottish tabloid the Daily Record that the song "has a Christmas-sounding melody with the most depressing sounding lyrics ever. I couldn't write a happy Christmas song."

Oya Festival Night - Monday

Four-band bill in London, Nov 24

Clash is throwing its weight behind Oya Festival’s special London club show next week… check out what’s on offer.

Held at the Luminaire in Kilburn on Monday November 24, the night presents four bands for the grand sum of seven of your British pounds. Doors are at half seven, and tickets can be yours by clicking HERE.

Playing live: Red Light Company, Lukestar, Animal Kingdom and Casiokids.

Says Rock Sound of Lukestar: “With musical comparisons ranging from Sigur Ros, Blonde Redhead and Mew via Weezer, Lukestar are certainly making all the right noises...you should definitely investigate further.”

And Pitchfork of Casiokids: “My favorite Norwegian discovery, Casiokids switch styles so much that it's hard to really pin them down - variables include high, winsome vocals, rubbery 8-bit melodies, dancey backing tracks, slashy post-punk guitars, a multi-media stage show with variuos kinds of puppets and video projections, and just generally a sweet and crazy party vibe."

So, that’s November 24, the Luminare, the above bands, seven quid. More information HERE

Stones, Oasis Donate Items

The British Music Experience, a stunning new museum housed within the confines of the O2 Arena in London, is set to open in March 2009 with historic items donated by The Rolling Stone, Oasis and many more.

The new museum charts the growth of British music, measuring its huge success and most iconic moments. The space in which it will be housed currently displays the ancient treasures of Tutankhamun, but the priceless jewels of the Boy King will just have to make way for the thundering sound of power chord.

From March the O2 arena will play host the stunning exhibition. Mick Jagger has donated an iconic jumpsuit from the 70s, while Noel Gallagher's famous Union Jack patterned guitar will also be on display.

The curators have also revealed that the exhibition will also contain guitars belonging to Paul Weller, Blur and Marc Bolan, while there will also be a vintage dress belonging to Amy Winehouse.

The British Music Experience opens in the O2 Arena in March.

Futureheads Live Releases

Band Authorize 'Bootlegs'

Sunderland punk-funk types The Futureheads are set to give fans a treat after authorizing the download only release of two 'bootleg' live albums.

The band's quirky off-kilter pop has seen them gather a rabid cult following, and it is those fans The Futureheads turned to after being dropped from record label 679. Retreating to their initial, self-owned imprint the band released this year's album 'This Is Not The World' a stunning collection of anthemic indie pop.

The two dates bookend the band's career to date. Beginning with a set in Seattle from 2004, the second set is from a recent gig in Cardiff's Great Hall.

The tracklistings are as follows:

Live @ The Crocodile Cafe, Seattle (2004) - Le Garage / Robot / The City Is Here For You To Use / Trying Not To Think About Time / Stupid & Shallow / Picture Of Dorian Gray / Alms / Meantime / A To B / First Day / He Knows / Carnival Kids / Decent Days & Nights / Hounds Of Love / Man Ray / Piece Of Crap

Live @ Cardiff Great Hall (02-05-08) - Decent Days & Nights / Broke Up The Time / Area / This Is Not The World / Radio Heart / Skip To The End / Everything's Changing / The Beginning Of The Twist / Hard To Bear / Hounds Of Love / He Knows / Carnival Kids / Man Ray

Win: Chance To Meet Coldplay

Online Auction Launches

A brand new online auction site has launched offering fans to chance to meet Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs and many more very special prizes, it has been announced.

The new charitable venture is a not for profit website, aiming to give fans a once in a lifetime prize. A partial list of potential prizes runs as follows:

2 VIP tickets to see Coldplay in concert followed by a meet and greet
2 VIP tickets to see Kaiser Chiefs at Wembley Arena followed by a meet and greet
A Fender guitar signed by Sting
The chance to have lunch or dinner with Craig David at his home in Hampstead
4 VIP tickets, flights and accommodation to the 2009 Europe Music Awards in Berlin
6 VIP tickets to see Madness and meet the band backstage

Yeah that's right - you could win Sting's guitar and then jam with Craig David back at his mansion. How cool would that be? All joking aside, this looks to be a great chance for a few lucky fans to gain something that dreams are made of.

The new site will give all profits to Rays Of Sunshine - a charity that helps terminally ill children.

The marriage between Queen of Pop Madonna and film director Guy Ritchie is over, after the High Court granted the couple a decree.

The couple married in 2000 in the Scottish castle Skibo. The pair formed one of the most powerful partnerships in media culture, representing a solid union between film and music.

However, the relationship had been dogged by rumor and tabloid speculation for the bulk of this year before the news broke last month that the pair were to divorce.

It has just been announced that the High Court has granted the couple a divorce. The decree will take six weeks to become official, falling just days before their eight wedding anniversary. in a court affidavit signed in America Madonna cited Ritchie's "unreasonable behavior" as reason for the divorce.

Ritchie claimed that night that "it dragged on much too long and that had nothing to do with me. It was never about the money - never about her bloody art collection. I just wanted to settle it and move on. I didn't raise any objections at any stage until she insisted the children lived permanently in New York."

Madonna has yet to comment on the newspaper story.

Manu Chao Single News

Song Inspired By Maradona

World music icon Manu Chao is set to release his new Diego Maradona-inspired single 'La Vida Tombola' on January 19th, it has been announced.

An icon to many across the world, Manu Chao's blend of high energy rockabilly and gypsy folk music is a potent party soundtrack. His gigs are genuine events in many parts of Europe, where he revered as an important cultural figure.

New single 'La Vida Tombola' was inspired by the life of legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona. Adored in his homeland, Maradona combined a natural flair for football with a fiery streak. Banned multiple times for drug abuse, he is now the manager of the Argentine national team.

Manu Chao has befriended the footballer, who he previously wrote the 1994 song 'Santa Maradona' about. The two have met several times, and the new single appears in a new documentary on the life of the footballer.

Manu Chao releases his new single 'La Vida Tombola' on January 19th.

Velvet Revolver Dropped?

Rumors Surround US Rock Group

American rockers Velvet Revolver have already lost their frontman Scott Weiland, and rumors are circulating that the band have been dropped by label RCA.

The band were formed by exiles from legendary group Guns 'N' Roses. Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash was even on Dr Peppers' blacklist, after the drinks firm promised a free can to every American citizen.

Velvet Revolver have already lost their frontman Scott Weiland, who departed the band acrimoniously earlier this year. Weiland told MTV that "Velvet Revolver fell apart because there were too many big egos in the band -- and I'm including myself. It wasn't necessarily about bad egos, just big egos, and unfortunately, it just mistakenly kind of eroded."

Now the group may be set for more difficulty, with strong industry rumor that Velvet Revolver have been dropped from label RCA.

RCA have yet to confirm or deny the rumors.

Smashing Pumpkins Tour Rant

Billy Corgan Gets Angry Onstage

US alt rock legends Smashing Pumpkins are currently completing their much derided 20th anniversary tour, and Billy Corgan has snapped onstage in Chicago ranting at fans.

The group were n of the best-selling American acts of the 90s, dominating the decade with their grandiose goth-pop. Albums such as 'Mellon Collin And The Infinite Sadness' rank as high points of American music, and their recent reformation was greeted with huge enthusiasm by fans and critics alike.

However, the recent 20th anniversary tour has been savaged by critics. At one disastrous New York show Corgan invited a heckler onstage, and was berated throughout by disgruntled fans. Poor set lists, a dearth of decent new material and extended noise jams have added to fan fury.

Onstage in his hometown of Chicago, Corgan snapped and began ranting at fans. “For twenty years we’ve tried to make people happy and failed again, and again,” he said. “What is it? Is it the funny voice? How come people just aren’t happy with us?

“You know, sometimes crowds remind me of ex-girlfriends, and you remind me of this one that took a lot of my money and didn’t like me.

“She told me she loved me but she wasn’t really there for me. That’s what this reminds me of. It’s that kind of relationship”.

The Smashing Pumpkins tour is ongoing.

Roots Involved In Bus Crash

?uestlove Blogs From Ambulance

Legendary US hip hop group The Roots were involved in a serious bus crash outside Paris on November 19th - but no so serious that drummer ?uestlove couldn't blog from inside the ambulance!

The Philadelphia group are renowned as one of the most lethal live acts in hip hop, blending sublime rapping with live instrumentation. The band were en route to Paris where they were due to perform with Kanye West when their bus crashed.

The Roots emerged with only minor injuries, and ?uestlove managed to upload a blog from the inside of an ambulance to keep fans updated.

"In reality the crash was all of about 7 seconds....but to do a 360 on the highway and end up ramped up (the van that crashed into ours was UNDER our double decker bus) in the air....is....well... a frigging miracle."

He added, "Dog we are soooo alive right now."

"That was divine intervention. We are so grateful for this outcome," he said.

It is not known if the band will continue the European tour.

Klaxons New Album

Band Hint At 2009 Plans

New rave icons Klaxons are aiming to finish recording their second album before Christmas with a view to a release in early 2009, the band have revealed in a new interview.

Exploding into a drab indie world, Klaxons outlandish image and stunning music had fans scratching their head and shaking their booty. 'Myths Of The Near Future' was a brilliant album, injecting some rave euphoria into the grey world of British indie. Of course, they immediately spawned some new rave wannabes but the less said about that the better.

James Ford, who produced their debut album, will re-join the band for their new effort with the Simian Mobile Disco drummer's production skills now highly sought after. Among the songs mooted for the second album are 'Moonhead' and 'Valley Of The Calm Trees', already played live by the band.

In a new interview Klaxons member Jamie Reynolds says that "half of it sounds like you're holding on for dear life – intense and nervous – and the other half sounds like when you don't care and you float off."

Klaxons are set to release their new album in early 2009.

Michael Jackson Islam Conversion

Singer Becomes A Muslim

Global pop megastar Michael Jackson is set to face his court battle as a newly converted Muslim, after recently declaring his new found faith in Islam.

Jackson is currently battling with Bahrain shiekh Abdulla Al-Khalifa, and has found Islam ahead of his forthcoming court appearance. The singer has now changed his name to Mikaeel, after a ceremony in his friend's home in Los Angeles.

Jackson was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, but his interest in Islam was piqued after conversations with friend Philip Bubal. According to British red top The Sun "they began talking to him about their beliefs and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea."

The Bahrain shiekh has made an itemized list of everything Jackson was given money for. A source told a British tabloid that "iIt's the most bizarre list imaginable. Some bills are only for £5 - but the sheikh wants every penny back."

Mikaeel Jackson in turn argues that the money - which in total amounts to £4.7 million - was a gift.

Simply Red Slam Oasis

Britpop Group Are A 'Cliche'

Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall has sensationally slammed Oasis, claiming that the band's Northern persona is a "cliche" and particularly singling Liam Gallagher out for criticism.

Oasis have always been proud of their roots - feverish Manchester City supporters the band's gigs in the city are scenes of passionate regional pride. Mick Hucknall is himself Mancunian, and took issue with Oasis in a new interview.

Referring to a joke involving Harry Enfield's characters Kevin and Perry, Hucknall said: “I love that Harry Engfield sketch when Kathy Burke comes back from a weekend in Manchester walking with a Liam gait and goes, ‘Fuckin’ sound. Bangin’."

“They’ve made a cliché out of presenting Northerners, especially Mancunians, like that.”

Mick Hucknall is currently on the promotional circuit, as his Simply Red get set to release their new 'Greatest Hits'. Rumors that it would consist of a blank disc are currently unfounded.

Sigur Ros Play London Show

Band Stun Audience

Icelandic post rock gods Sigur Ros played a stunning show at London's Alexandra Palace last night (November 20th), the first of a two night residency at the venue.

The group have had a hugely successful year, with perhaps the peak being the fantastic 'Nattura' event in their native Iceland. A concert in aid of of a conservation charity, the event was a massive success.

Arriving on the dimly lit stage the group launched into their classic early track 'Svefn-G-Englar'. The set contained classic fan favorites alongside newer material. The Sigur Ros live experience was well represented on disc earlier this year with the release of the 'Heima' tour film, but nothing compares to the sheer physical presence of the sound.

As usual, the band did not interact much with the audience, preferring to stand anonymously behind their music. However, Sigur Ros were keen to mix in a bit of fun with their music, with the track 'Gobbledigook' being performed in a shower of ticker tape.

Sigur Ros are set to play the Alexandra Palace, London again tonight (November 21st).

Nirvana Bassist On Injury

Novaselic Recalls Incident

Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novaselic has hit a nostalgic streak, recalling how he famously injured himself after throwing his bass in the air at the 1992 MTV Music Video Awards.

In a scene that has gone down in award ceremony infamy, Novaselic tossed his bass far up in the air and looked to catch it - only to miss the instrument completely and emerge with a bloody cut to his forehead.

In his weekly blog for Seattle Weekly, the bassist recalled that “I always try to get good air—I bet I hit over 25 feet, easy! But no matter how high it went, I was not on my game— the only time I’ve ever dropped it was then in front of 300 million people. Ouch! I was fine, but I faked like I was knocked out.”

After he was treated for a cut on his forehead, Queen guitarist Brian May invited him backstage for a glass of champagne. “Moments later Dave Grohl burst in. He’d been looking all over for me, only to find me enjoying a calm glass of bubbly with Mr. May. It was a relief for all!”

Incredibly, Novaselic still has the bass.

Kraftwerk Sampling Case

German Band Dealt Blow

Seminal German electronic artists Kraftwerk have been dealt a blow in Germany's high court after a copyright lawsuit went against them, it is reported.

The band had attempted to sue rap producer Moses Pelham for using two seconds of their 1977 song 'Metal On Metal' in one of his own songs. Famously, 'Metal On Metal' was sampled by Africa Bambataa for his electro classic 'Planet Rock'.

The case was first heard in a Hamburg state court, which ruled in Kraftwerk's favor. The court argued that sampling even the shortest snippet of a song was a violation of an artist's copyright.

However, the rap producer appealed the decision and took the matter to Germany's high court. This time, the high court over-ruled the case and sent it back to a civil court.

The German group are also involved in a legal case in this country, as Kraftwerk are currently attempting to force Liverpool group Kling Klang to change their name.

Springsteen Answers Actor Plea

Composes Theme For New Movie

New Jersey's finest Bruce Springsteen answered a distress call from Hollywood star Mickey Rourke to compose the theme to the new movie 'The Wrestler'.

Springsteen has been exceptionally busy of late, playing a number of gigs in support of eventual election winner Barack Obama. In addition to this The Boss has finished writing a new album with the E Street Band. Set to be released in January, the collection will be called 'Working On A Dream'.

In a new interview with the magazine Uncut, actor Rourke claims "I wrote Bruce a letter, because we’ve known each other over twenty years, and he knows what I used to be, or whatever. Where I went. What I’d been reduced to. I told him how I felt lucky now and didn’t have to end up being this guy, being Randy."

"A while later I got a call in the middle of the night: he said he’d written a little song, for nothing. It’s fucking beautiful, right? I was honoured he took the time, because he’s a busy cat. I mean, I’m so goddam proud of this magical movie and to have Bruce’s input… ain’t nobody in Hollywood with all their millions can just ring the man and he’ll do a song, y’know?"

'The Wrestler' is released in the UK on January 16th. 'The Wrestler' will appear as a bonus track on the new Springsteen album 'Working On A Dream' - set for release on January 26th.

Smiths Guitar Auction

Johnny Marr Donates Guitar

With the newly remastered collection 'The Sound Of The Smiths' set to be released soon, a new auction has emerged that gives fans the chance to buy a special guitar signed by Johnny Marr.

Marr helped curate the new collection, which gathers together the best of the legendary group's career. Frontman Morrissey also had a say in which tracks were chosen, with rarities including the lost B-side 'Jeane', regarded as one of the best tracks from the band's early period.

The new auction has a spectacular prize - a candy apple red Fender Jaguar, signed by Marr himself. Although best known for using a Cherry Red 335, this guitar is still a stunning instrument.

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Pictor School For Children, at the personal request of Johnny Marr himself. In co-operation with the band, record label Rhino will denote 10% of all profits from the sales of 'The Sound Of The Smiths' on its eBay page to the Pictor School.

Bid for the guitar by clicking here!

'The Sound Of The Smiths' was released on November 10th.

Justice Internet Controversy

Do The French Duo Mime?

French electro-house duo Justice have been caught up in the centre of internet controversy after a photograph taken at one of their shows appeared to show the group performing with unplugged equipment.

The duo were captured mid-performance and it appears to show the group performing without any leads. Comprised of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge, Justice have cut a swathe through the dance world with their punishing performances. Their debut album was released in 2007 and was hailed as an instant classic.

The group were quick to respond to the allegations of miming, stating that "I didn’t notice at first, because as you can see I was looking at the computer to launch the next vocal hook and right after I realised that the blue screen went black, so there was no way possible it could work. So I plugged it back in, big deal! And the next thing you know is this picture."

Hmm! We'll let you be the judge of that one.

Justice release their tour DVD 'Across The Universe' on Monday (November 24th).

Eleanor Rigby Revealed

Update: McCartney Rubbishes Claims

Sir Paul McCartney has refuted attempts to find the true identity of the woman in the Beatles song 'Eleanor Rigby', insisting in a new interview that the song is entirely fictitious.

The song was released on the Beatles' 1966 album 'Revolver' and has become one of the group's best loved songs. The song's writer Sir Paul McCartney recently donated a hospital accounts log from Liverpool's City Hospital to the Sunbeam Trust charity, in which was found the signature of one E. Rigby.

Rigby was apparently a scullery maid at the hospital, fueling speculation over who the true character was. McCartney however, has insisted that the document is purely a coincidence. If someone wants to spend money buying a document to prove a fictitious character exists, that's fine with me", the former Beatle claimed.

McCartney says the name came from a combination of actress Eleanor Bron, who starred in The Beatles’ movie Help, and a wine merchant.

The document will be auctioned at London's Idea Generation Gallery on November 27th.

Michael Jackson Court Date

Singer To Fly Into UK

Global pop megastar Michael Jackson is set to fly into the UK on Monday (November 24th) for an appearance at the London High Court, it has been announced.

The 'Thriller' star has been summoned to give evidence after being accused of breaching a music contract. The claim has been brought by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, the son of the King Of Bahrain. He claims that in a deal worth £4.7 million Jackson was to produce a new album, a stage play and an autobiography. To date, Jackson has not delivered anything.

However, in his defence Jackson is expected to argue that any money given to him was a gift, and that receipt of money does not equate to a legal agreement. The singer had requested to give evidence via a video link-up, but this was rejected meaning that Jackson must appear in person.

Michael Jackson's legal team had previously argued that the singer was to sick to travel to the UK.

The 'Thriller' star will appear in London high court on November 24th.

MIA On Love And Money

Singer Gets Engaged

Sri Lankan born singer MIA is perhaps best associated with left-wing struggles to address third world concerns, but the singer has spoken out after getting engaged to an heir to the Seagram beverage firm.

MIA has had a stunning year, with her single 'Paper Planes' waltzing up the US Billlboard charts, with the audience seemingly oblivious to its connotations of illegal immigration. The world-pop starlet blends styles from across continents to create something truly modern, and truly multi-cultural.

With her last tour titled 'People Vs Money' more than a few eyebrows were raised when MIA announced her engagement to Ben Brewer, the son of Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. However, in a new interview with Spin magazine she reveals that she isn't concerned by wealth. "I fell in love. It is what it is" she explains.

However, she admits that she does sometimes find the situation a bit unusual. "It's like crossing over to the other side. I've always had that fuck-the-system mentality, and his dad is so 'the System.' But then, they're the most liberal family -- they bootlegged alcohol, for God's sake. They're rich because they threw big, illegal parties, so I don't mind."

MIA also admits that she may well be criticized, but feels ready to cope. "I think I would've been screwed either way. I kept dating guys who were broke, who came from the streets, or from backgrounds like mine, but they didn't necessarily treat me any better. My fiancé is really a great guy."
