Mumm Ra
Bexhill-on-Sea indie/pop romantics
Why Mumm-Ra chose the name of an evil God from the 80’s cartoon series Thundercats for their band says a lot about them. The five-piece from Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex formed the band over five years ago when they were teenagers, starting out more as a social group than a serious project. “It was just a hobby at the start,” explains lead singer James Noo, “we couldn’t really play our instruments so we weren’t sure what kind of band we’d become. We wanted an open-ended name that you wouldn’t associate with any particular style of music. Mumm-Ra seemed like a good choice.”
