French born singer of Spanish origin. Surrounded by intellectuals and musicians from an early age Chao's imagination was fired by British punk, especially The Clash. After limited success with punk / rockabilly act Hot Pants, Manu Chao embarked on a lengthy - and still continuing - solo career. His mujsic contains many influences, and Chao sings in a huge variety of languages - making him a world music superstar.
