A quick preview of the Hungarian festival...
Sziget festival

The 25th edition of Hungary’s Sziget Festival is almost here! The self proclaimed ‘Island of Freedom’, non-stop music and arts festival hosts almost 500,000 visitors coming from more than 100 countries every year. This year the program will be as colorful and vibrant as ever - expect music, theatre, circus, dance and tons of activities.

Sziget festival continues to offer one of the most diverse and open-minded programs in the world, making sure that it is much more than ‘just’ a music festival. The unique atmosphere at the festival has been the essential part of Sziget from the beginning, merging a diverse music line-up with many programs beyond music such as theatre, dance, circus, art and many more.

On the main stages visitors can expect to catch the likes of Biffy Clyro, DJ Shadow, Interpol, Kasabian, Mac Demarco, PJ Harvey, The Kills, The Vaccines and more.

The first Sziget was organized in 1993 by Károly Gerendai, promoter back in the days, and Péter Sziámi Müller, musician-poet. In 1993 the festival hosted 43,000 people to enjoy 200 music, 80 film and 40 theatre performances. Moving forward, last year’s Sziget hosted 496,000 people with almost a thousand program at more than 50 venues.

Sziget started out as a cultural picnic organized for a bunch of friends, while today it holds the prestigious awards for Best Major European Festival twice, Best Line-Up Festival and just recently the Artists’ Favourite Festival. Sziget is not only the biggest tourist attraction of Hungary, but also the most well-know Hungarian brand.
