The Drums Live

At Clash Magazine's 6th Birthday Party

The heirs to New York’s indie crown landed in Camden on Friday to give everyone gathered further proof that they are the real deal.

Surfing on their chiming, euphoric melodies and infectious vocals they have far from reinvented the wheel, preferring to waste no time cruising with a formula that served The Cure, Beach Boys or the chart viral savvy New Order equally well.

From the dream pop of ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ their whistling was on a par with Mancunian alumni The Happy Mondays while ‘My Best Friend’ was as rapturously received by the fans as any band could hope to be.

Any fears that the band were exhausted were soon dispelled as singer Jonathan Pierce’s now trade-marked robot dancing set the small stage in Camden in full motion. He can certainly move is squares. Cubist dancing is here. With perfectly round pop songs that’ll make you dream for more as they bury themselves in the centre of your mind.
