The Flaming Lips light up OFF Festival - and we join them onstage!!

Who wouldn’t want to walk out onto the main stage in front of thousands of people for a headline set at a festival and dance your ass off with a massive smile spread across your face? Hey, Clash would LOVE to do it! And now we have!! But more of that later…

Sunday is the final day of the OFF Festival in Poland, and it is with a heavy but happy heart that we introduce ourselves to the day with a slice of Polish tongue-twisters Pablopavo i Ludziki, and while no clue was gathered as to what the lyrics mean, the natives love it, as they do O.S.T.R, another Polish rap star who follows on the main stage.

We then share a beer and some good times with musician, music fanatic and festival director, Artur Rojek. Here is the man who, five years ago, had a vision for veritable fiesta of alterative music in his homeland, and year upon year has built an unforgettable experience for thousands of music lovers and bands from across the globe.

One such band, Norwegian party boys Casiokids, take to the Forest Stage next, and clearly have one helluva time showcasing their joyous electro funk to the assembled masses. Next up it’s a quick runaround to catch Dum Dum Girls, Shearwater, No Age and The Raveonettes in quick succession, the latter really hitting their stride with great tunes like Ali, Walk With Me and Attack of the Ghost Riders.

Before too long, Clash find ourselves standing in front of over 10,000 ecstatic faces dressed as DJ Lance Rock from US kids show Yo Gabba Gabba!, as we take part in the audio, visual and sensory extravaganza that is The Flaming Lips. Excited? Oh aye.

The Lips are THE quintessential festival band, a band who put their heart and soul into making each and every performance feel like an epic event, and despite having seen them many times before, they are always, without fail, astounding, jaw-dropping and one of the most enjoyable bands we have ever witnessed. Tonight, headlining the main stage at OFF Festival, (with Clash as backing dancers!!) they live up to high expectations, producing an unforgettable performance, complete with space ball, balloons, streamers and an arsenal of tremendous psychedelic hits like She Don’t Use Jelly, I Can Be A Frog, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, and the wonderful, technocolour climax of Do You Realise?

After this kind of excitement, anything else is going to be a comedown, so instead of Anti-Pop Consortium, Darkstar or even Philip Jeck, we decide to call it a night and bring a multi-coloured curtain down on our immense weekend in Katowice.

So all that is left to say is thank you to our new Polish friends Iga and Krzysztof! Thanks to The Flaming Lips for making dreams come true! Thank you to European prices for tickets and booze! But most of all, thank you to Artur Rojek, for putting on the best party in Poland and inviting us all to come along and share the passions of a crazy man who dreamed it was all possible.

If you want an unforgettable festival experience next year that won’t burst your budget - Turn OFF! Tune in! Get over here! Dzi?kujemy POLAND!
