With The Vegas’ debut being released in a week’s time, the sheer volume of people who turn up to see the band is staggering. So much so it feels like even the bands must all be watching (one Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian is also spotted).

Musically, they’re easily the best thing Scotland’s thrown up in a decade: a band for the people, a band who you imagine didn’t set out to make songs “for girls to dance to” like Franz. A band described by Allan McGee as “the most important band of the last 20 years”.

Mixing their trademark sound (the feedback-soaked strains of Jesus & Mary Chain and Phil Spector’s Orchestral melodies), today feels more like a celebration of what’s to come for the band, with everyone knowing every word to every (unreleased) song.

They pepper the singles (‘Daddy’s Gone’, ‘Geraldine’) throughout the set, also airing upcoming album tracks ‘Sad Light’ (their best song?) and a mammoth ‘Go Square Go’, which leaves James Allan declaring the crowd response “fucking beautiful” from the smoke-filled stage.

They leave out the album’s bleaker (yet no less interesting) moments such as ‘Stabbed’, although it’s easy to see why these wouldn’t translate too well in a live setting. Where next for Glasvegas? With the band recently confirming they will be heading to Transylvania later in the year to record a Christmas album, and their debut yet to be released, it’d be hard to imagine them coming back to anything but a Headlining slot next time round.
