Celebrations run deep in the Jamaican national character. The tiny island knows how to party, how to shrug off the worries of day-to-day life and let its hair down. Iconic white rum Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum may just have something to do with it, sitting at the heart of many a Jamaican celebration over the years.
Now it's our turn. Jamaican Independence Day takes place on August 6th, and to celebrate Wray & Nephew are hosting the #jamaicarumtings takeover transforming the Britannia pub in East London into ‘Wray’s Tavern’ on Saturday 3rd August for one day only.
Kicking off at 2pm Wray’s Tavern plays host to sizzling jerk BBQ, while the Rum Bar will serve up a variety of Wray & Nephew punches to suit all tastes as well as interactive punch sessions with the Wray Nephew's team. Alongside this, Winstan Whitter will be exhibiting his photography documenting the journey of Dalston's famed Four Aces nightclub - at its peak, arguably the beating heart of East London's musical life.
Soundtracking the day will be the mighty Trojan Soundsystem. A legendary reggae institution, the crack team of selectors will be tracing Jamaican music's journey - from ska to roots, rocksteady to dancehall. As night falls, headliners Earl Gateshead and Daddy AD take charge of the selection, while the crowds can expect red hot toasting from Superfour, Chucky Bantan and Jah Buck. This is one bass session you won't want to miss out on.
