Great Debut Singles

Hopefully folk will have read our excellent new article on Great Debut Singles (and the tail off that follows) - go and read it now! - anyone got anymore suggestions?

In my opinion the Jesus and Mary Chain were at their best drenched in feedback, and since debut single "Upside Down" features the Reids' amps screaming for their lives I'm going with this one. A few decent songs after this, but really how could anything compare? Plus like all great debut singles they left it off the debut album.

Quite a conventional one but

Quite a conventional one but I reckon 'Caught By the Fuzz' by Supergrass is a perfectly formed first single. It may 'borrow' from Buzzocks 'Everybody's Happy Nowadays' but it's pretty great.

I love Caught By The Fuzz, it's my favourite Supergrass song.

It's hard to think of things in terms of debut singles, because I'm usually quite suspicious of bands who have a great debut. I like to see them unfold a bit before committing myself.
