Oya Festival
Diverse, eco friendly Scando-Festival
Why should I go? For those unperturbed by inflated Scandinavian prices, Oya offers a great line-up in an incomparable location.
Any interesting titbits of information? The festival is held in a Medieval Park in Oslo, a location trapped by Fjords that is very, very beautiful.
Oya Festival is a gathering that benefits from its surroundings. While it is located in the city of Oslo, the festival site itself feels remote, as it is trapped by fjords on one side, a river on the other and the city skyline in the distance. It’s a sight to behold in itself, never mind the music the festival offers.
Heading up the third installment of Oya are Arctic Monkeys and Wilco, but they’re joined on the bill by a range of exciting Norwegian bands, programmed to give international audiences a taste of the local talent. The festival also hosts club nights within Oslo during the course of the festival, extending the eclectic party vibe outside of the main site.
You can camp and enjoy the in-house talent, or flock to one of dozens of clubs for another 600 or so concerts over the four days. In its soul, Oya is a small festival, but it is doing big things.
Ticket Price: Five-day festival pass: Kr1,850 (£185). One-day passes will be available later this year.
