Open'er Festival
Poland Rocks
The opening up of Eastern Europe to democracy promised a new and fertile ground for creativity. Long suppressed, this urge to be free and party has now taken root in a series of festivals in former Communist countries. Amongst the best of these is Poland’s Open’er event, a three day celebration of all that’s great and good about music. Placed near the coast of the Baltic Sea, Gyndia is part of an urban complex and Open’er is the highlight of the summer season.
This year’s headliners include the emotive grooves of Moby, kuduro ravers Buraka Som Sistema and flippin' Madness! Also on this varied bill are fidgeteers Crystal Castles, The Gossip and Placebo. Amongst that group of musical legends a few up and coming bands have been sneaked in with a shoegaze spectacle from M83 and hippy Hjaltalin both set to make appearances at the event.
