Why should I go? A remote and intimate festival boasting some of the biggest names in music.

Any interesting titbits of information? Loopallu (Ullapool spelt backwards) was the brainchild of Ullapool-based promoter Robert Hicks and the band Hayseed Dixie.

The fifth annual Loopallu music festival is based in a remote and quiet fishing village approximately 57 miles outside of Inverness. It may well be one of the most remote festival sites in Britain, but it still manages to hook some big names, giving more established and bigger festivals a run for their money.

The likes of Echo and the Bunnymen, Franz Ferdinand, The Levellers and The Bees have so far performed to the intimate 2,500 (approx) crowd in the past, so expect more of the same calibre talent for the 2009 helping. Brought to you by Beyond Promotions and fondly known as ‘the little fest on the west’, is back and rapidly growing in popularity amongst festivalgoers.

All of the acts perform in a large tent and a wide selection of locally sourced food and drink will be on sale. The friendly festival is a varied and interesting weekend for all, with activities for all ages and music for all tastes.

All this plus fringe shows, street entertainment, mouth-watering local food and drink set against a cultural and scenic background - it should certainly make for a pleasant and entertaining weekend.

Accommodation: The festival itself is located at Broomfield Campsite and, although numbers are limited, slots can be bought when purchasing tickets. Alternatively, we suggest booking accommodation with one of the hotels or B&B’s in Ullapool and surrounding areas.

Capacity: 2,500-3000.
Travel: Ullapool is 57 miles North West of Inverness. The road is well sign posted all the way so people travelling by car should have no problems. The closest railway station is at Garve which is 32 miles out - we would recommend travelling to Garve and then using local transport to connect with Ullapool itself.
