Larmer Tree
Has over 100 workshops
Back in the heady days of 1990 the legend goes that a chap called James Shepard was jogging on the Cranborne Chase when an idea popped into his head. That idea was to have a festival at the Larmer Tree and maybe one day have top bands grace the area. The initial festival was a smaller one-day event and featured jazz, blues and about 200 folk that Mr Shepard vaguely or intensely knew. This gradually became the festival as it is today going from Wednesday right through to Sunday with a range of musical treats from good old guitar bands to pianists and a bit of Congolese rumba tossed in for good measure.
This year’s event welcomes Jools Holland on the first night, as usual. Other highlights include The Travelling Band and Imelda May.
Any festival that has lasted eighteen years is well worth a look so don’t miss out.
