Glastonbury Festival
Blighty's Greatest Festival.
Where and when? Worthy Farm, Glastonbury, Somerset - June 26th-28th.
Why should I go? It’s the quintessential music festival.
Any interesting titbits of information? A campaign to make revelers more conscious of their impact on the farmyard festival site started after a cow choked to death on a tent peg.
Whatever you want from a festival, you’ll get it at Glastonbury. The most iconic event in the British music calendar is also the most diverse: whether you want to wave a lighter to the biggest bands on the planet, discover new talent on the festival fringe or simply titter at Kate Moss tottering round like a drunken foal, you’re catered for. Although the organisers keep the line-up under wraps until the last possible minute, you can bet that the big names will be there in June. This year, Worthy Farm in Somerset will definitely see Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and a reunited Blur appear on the Pyramid Stage. Who’s playing the smaller stages is anyone’s guess at the moment, but given the scope of the festival, you’re guaranteed to find something to your taste - or something bat-shit crazy enough to keep you entertained for half-an-hour. Even the most strident hippy - and it attracts a few - can’t complain about Glastonbury’s environmental credentials. The festival supports Greenpeace, Wateraid and Oxfam and also helps a host of local charities and organisations. So, you should go. But pack your wellies: if it rains, the whole site quickly turns into the Somme circa 1916.
