Evolution Festival
Newcastle Brings The Noise...
Why should I go?
Geordies are mental.
Any interesting titbits of information?
Evolution is the North East’s biggest music festival
Geordies are mental. With bitter winds blowing in over the North Sea the men folk of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne are often found walking around in t-shirts, demonstrating not a care in the world for the miseries of the cold.
With a population as brave and downright foolhardy as that, Evolution had better be something special – and it is. The biggest music and arts festival in the North East, it has grown massively over the past five years and has come to represent a new mood in the area. With the building of the BALTIC centre in Gateshead (used as a stage by Evolution) the artistic and musical output of the area has been focused, giving Newcastle a sterling reputation for creativity.
Evolution takes place over a prolonged period of time but events come to a head over the May bank holiday weekend. Using a number of stages set around the once derelict Spillers Wharf region, Evolution turns the area into a scene of mass celebration. With this year’s headliners including The Wombats, Human League, Dizzee Rascal and more the festival has proved it can pull in some big names. Allied to this is an expertly put together dance stage which boasts names such as Boys Noize, Chase & Status and Kissy Sell Out. So go on: grab your t-shirt and pretend you can party as hard as the locals.
