End Of The Road
Held at Larmer Tree Gardens
Why should I go?
It’s the new Green Man.
Any interesting titbits of information?
It’s probably the only festival where you can learn how to play old Viking game Kubb.
A self-proclaimed response to Green Man festival, End of the Road is just three years old, the brainchild of an English/Swedish couple disillusioned by the corporatism and impersonal nature of the UK’s mainstream festivals. As such, End of the Road is small, beautifully-located amidst wandering peacocks and forests in Larmer Tree Gardens, offering high quality organic and local produce and a gentle mix of Americana, folk and alt. Country to digest.
It sold out for the first time last year, and looks to continue its success as an anti-‘hard sell’ weekend, where every act is a headliner, and secret sets among the trees are sweet surprises rather than publicity stunts. If you are winding down from the summer and want a soothing antidote to the intensity of July and August’s big weekends, this could be the perfect recovery.
Conor Oberst, Ed Harcourt, Ryan Adams, Architecture in Helsinki, Super Furry Animals and British Sea Power have all leant their musical talents in the past. Following glowing reviews in the places you would expect (The Independent, Guardian et al), this is one to get to before it expands too far, or gets filled with yummy-mummies and kids fresh from their gap years.
