Blissfields
Great grassroots festival
Why should I go? You would be supporting one of the UK's great grassroots festivals.
Any interesting titbits of information?
The festival was started by Paul and Mel Bliss as a party for friends with a few bands they knew playing to just 70 of them.
Paul and Mel Bliss started off their festival by inviting their close friends round to a party in their back garden. They enjoyed the experience so much they started up Blissfields where lots of like minded people and families could enjoy the atmosphere of a small family run festival.
The music selection is a reflection of their wide ranging tastes and takes in everything from folk, indie, reggae, dance and electronica. Super Furry Animals and Laura Marling are the headliners you want to know about.
Blissfields also cater for families, being parents themselves, and have lined up activities to keep the kids happy. These include tractor rides, workshops, magicians and specially designated family areas. For those who are child-free there is a late night chillout area and the second stage will be open until 1.30am throughout the weekend.
The emphasis for Blissfields is on respecting others around you whilst still having a great time and with the conditions at some of the larger festivals becoming too much for some this could be a welcome relief.
