Big Chill Festival

Ledbury's leading (well..only) cool festival

05.08.2010 - 08.08.2010
Eastnor Castle Ledbury, Herefordshire

Why should I go? Biggest line-up in its history.

Any interesting titbits of information? Impress your mates by glancing at the castle and remarking: ‘early 19th century Norman revival never recaptured the magic of Lincoln Castle’.

Big Chill have announced their biggest line-up in their history this year with headliners from Massive Attack and MIA. The line-up is among the best of the summer, with shows from Layo & Bushwacka!, Kruder & Dorfmeister, RJD2, the Black Seeds, Plan B, Q Tip, Bebel Gilberto, Matthew Herbert, High Contrast, Little Dragon, The Bug, Goldie, Foreign Beggars, DJ Derek, Greg Wilson and more.

The festival had a heavy reggae influence last year, and is known for attracting an older generation, but there’s not too many off road three-wheeler baby cots here, although as the line-up shows there is a more mature look to the music. There is also a huge burning effigy that lights up Sunday’s festivities, and Clash has seen that although marriages are possible at the venue, they are not legally binding.

This year should see Heligoland, which is excellent live, get a full showing, while New Zealand reggae crew the Black Seeds are ones to watch for a fugged-out set. High Contrast will be a treat as his mellow drum & bass attunes well with the less cacophonous sounds. Matthew Herbert has three albums out this year, and should fit perfectly with the vibe - maybe some disco - maybe some strings, as he’s accompanied by his band. Big things all round.
