Fashion East AW15: Ed, Mary & Caitlin

Lulu announces a new crew and format shake up.

Scheduled to show at London Fashion Week an hour before Central Saint Martins’ MA show in 15 days (a sweetly pleasing fit for no reason other than the volume of properly fresh talent in a short space of time), Fashion East has today announced its full line up for AW15 as well as a showcase shake up.

SS15’s newbie Ed Marler returns for a second season, presenting his (probably? hopefully?) sartorially indulgent collection via an intimate salon show, while Central Saint Martins MA graduate (and former Clash One To Watch) Caitlin Price and University of Westminster BA graduate Mary Benson join him, each making their debuts with static presentations.

“The team and our panel all feel strongly that young designers need to showcase their collections in the way that suits them best,” explains founder and director Lulu Kennedy, “so this season instead of the usual group runway show I’m excited that we’re accommodating our two brilliant newcomers with presentations that can really draw guests into their world.”

The move mirrors SS13 when then-newbies Ryan Lo and Claire Barrow too held static presentations. Both have since used the model to showcase their NEWGEN sponsored collections to striking effect; for SS15 Lo soundtracked a casual underwater scene with Abba and Barrow invited guests to a v.fitting, v.eerie disused building in Marylebone.

“We’ll also be showing Ed’s second collection in an intimate salon show – all under one roof at the incredible ICA,” continues Lulu, “one of my favourite places in London!” Perhaps unsurprisingly the gallery also played host to Kennedy’s debut Lulu & Co presentation last season.
