One Little Indian talent names some pivotal artists...

Tusks - real name Emily Underhill - is an artist who seems to sit at intersections.

A songwriter with a rich sense of melody, she's also a talented producer who is able to blend different styles and approaches.

Snapped up by One Little Indian, Tusks is set to release her debut album later this year and the early signs are that it will be rather special.

Clash invited Tusks to jot down a few influences, but what we got back was less a playlist and more a defiant treatise on the vital role women have played in electronic music.

Bjork

I think Bjork is the ultimate creative! Everything from her vocal delivery and production to her visuals and VR releases pushes boundaries and seems completely unique and captivating. I think she's a great encouragement to always trust your own instinct and write/produce/release what’s true to you. She's been an amazing force in bringing women to the forefront of production too and challenging sexism in the music industry which I love her for.

Grimes

I love Grimes' work ethic – she's self produced four extensive (amazing) albums by the age of 28, as well as doing all her own artwork, and I think she directs her videos too! Her motivation is incredible – she makes me feel like I’ve done nothing! Which is great motivation for me.

Tokimonsta

Tokimonsta was a producer I got into pretty early on in my music career with her 'Creature Dreams' EP. She was a big inspiration to my more chilled out electronic tracks. I love her style of lazy beats mixed with vocals and synths and feel like she creates a really cool blend of chilled, uplifting and catchy music with that release - it's still a favourite of mine.

Shura – 'Space Tapes'

I'd love Shura to produce a whole album like 'Space Tapes' - I love the down-tempo vibe and use of samples, and the fact that it’s a ten minute montage that seamlessly blends into each other. I think it’s a good reminder that sometimes those odd album tracks can end up being the best ones. - - -

Georgia

I watched Georgia do a production class at this amazing new event Red Bull Studios are running for female producers, engineers and DJs in London called Normal Not Novelty. I think Georgia's another great example of someone who's just totally doing her own thing – her song (and video) for Move Systems is so addictive - she has such great drum beats and rhythms in her songs, and like Grimes has done so much already after drumming for Kate Tempest and Kwes plus producing her debut album. I think she's just produced a second one too!

It was amazing getting the chance to see her break down her production techniques in the workshop – I'd massively recommend the event to any girls interested in that.

Olga Bell – 'Incitation'

I find Olga's use of textured beats and industrial sounds underneath her vocals and piano in this EP really interesting. She has a great use of dynamics in her production alongside strange time signatures & song structures which makes this EP so addictive and influential.

Imogen Heap - 'Hide & Seek'

I think Imogen Heap was one of the first female producers that I was really into when I was growing up – this song still amazes me after listening to it 500 times. It's a great example of how less is sometimes more with production and how effective vocal pitching and manipulation can be in a track - I think for me it was the first example I heard of it being used in pop music.
