If we've learned one thing from Roots Manuva, it's to never predict his next move.
Currently holed up in his Tottenham base, Rodney Smith is continually working on new material, exploring fresh directions. Following on from 2011's '4everevolution' the rapper is keen to keep things moving forwards, keen to maintain that unique sense of momentum which runs through his career.
A one off document, 'Banana Skank' is much more than a throwaway, a stopgap. Less of a stopping off point and more of an intersection, the new EP draws a line under '4everevolution' and points towards potential new avenues for exploration.
Drawn from that 2011 LP, the title cut maintains the boundless energy we've come to expect from Roots Manuva. Alongside this, the rapper presents a remix from Wafa as well as a new re-working from his own North London studio.
Elsewhere, Roots Manuva trades verses with Kope on 'Natural' and 'Party Time'. Recorded at his Tottenham base the tracks feature the rapper trading verses in his own inimitable style, with his Banana Klan cohort pushing him to new levels. Out today on Big Dada, you can stream 'Banana Skank' exclusively on ClashMusic.
