Playlist: Roska’s Random Five

Hit shuffle and tell us about it, already...

Still championed as a key name in UK funky and a mainstay on Rinse FM for some years, Roska's sound has explored new dimensions recently, blurring the lines between house, dubstep and funky in rhythm-laden, dancefloor-friendly fashion.

With a collaborative EP alongside Pinch already under his belt in 2013, Roska plays Clash's June issue launch party alongside Ben Pearce and Sinden at The Supperclub on Friday June 7th. To get you in the mood, he's put together an exclusive five-track YouTube playlist made up of his favourite tracks to randomly bless his iPhone on shuffle mode at the gym…

Snap – ‘The Power’

“Every time I actually listen to this tune or randomly sing it in the shower, it actually makes me feel a slight surge of power. But, at the same time, it makes me feel pretty old.”

DJ Gregory – ‘Attend 1’

“A total vibe of a tune. This takes me back to 2006/07, listening and sourcing house tracks that would fit into a Roska set of the time.”

Joy Orbison – ‘BRKLN CLLN’

“I could listen to this on repeat for hours, this tune. It’s got elements of funky and house in there that appeal to me, but still manages to sound like Joy O. I think it only came out on vinyl in 2009.”

Buraka Som Systema – ‘Tira O Pe' (Tom Howler Remix)

"There was a stage when I used to rinse this tune in every set. It's a true party track, with the minimal build-ups from the small breaks.” (Video below is the original version.)

Major Lazer – ‘Sweat’ ft Laidback Luke & Ms Dynamite

“That trademark Major Lazer sound, with ragga influences that I love flowing through it.”
