As the old saying goes: West is best.
However, when it comes to London's clubbing hotspots West is sadly lagging behind. East is leading the way in cutting edge electronic music, able to combine world beating names with brand new talent, while South is also beginning to flex its muscles.
Brand new club night Ritual, though, could herald a resurgence. Located in a cutting edge arts venue beneath Chelsea FC's stadium, the team aim to replicate the success they've enjoyed with Tempo Tantrum and The Music League.
Aiming to flip the compass on its head, Ritual launches on February 2nd with a special line up. Re-edit kingpin - and one of the most influential DJs Britain has ever produced - Greg Wilson is set to perform, joined by the likes of Mxxi Soundsystem, Yoghurt Warrior presents Shark Bait & JDP and Concrete Disco.
Catching our eye, though, is a set from Horse Meat Disco. The long running London night specialises in digging out old disco cuts and combining them with the very latest productions - aiming for a party feel, this is one night which realises rarity doesn't pack the dancefloor.
ClashMusic asked James Hillard to supply a guest playlist, and the Horse Meat Disco selector decided to focus on Britain's hidden disco past. All produced in the UK, these are some of his current favourite spins...

Richard Hewson Orchestra - What Shall We Do When The Disco Is Over
Richard Hewson went on to form the Rah Band but as The Richard Hewson Orchestra he penned a few amazing records inclusing shark bite which featured on our first compilation. This track here is a perfect end of the night record managing effortlessly to glide between deep grooves and camp hights.
Biddu Orchestra - Boogiethon
Another great slice of some british disco funk from Biddu. Although Indian born he was based in the UK so I guess it's OK to count this as a British Disco. One thing that isn't in doubt is how amazing this track is. And alongside many other great albums he is one of the unsung heros of the British disco scene.
Elkie Brooks - The Rising Cost Of Love
Not really known for her disco credentials this track by another British artist comes from Elkie Brooks' 1979 'Live and Learn' Album. I guess everyone was at it by 1979 so why not Elkie! On a boogie trip herewith some great string arrangments and Elkie giving a great vocal performance. Sexy and sultry!
Immagination - Burning Up
I remember seeing Immagination for the first time on Top Of The Pops and ever since I became a little obsessed, mainly due to the use of cod pieces but the Immagination have contributed nemerous club classics that I'm only too happy to play these days. This one also has a rather fabulous Larry Levan dub which used to get rinsed at the Paradise Garage!!!
Chaz Jankel - 109
Chaz was a Blockhead in Ian Drury's band. Chaz as the musical counterpart to Drury's lyrical excellence. His most famous tracks would probably be 'Glad To Know You' and 'Ai Non Corida' but there are some other amazing productions he is responsble for including this one.
