Meadowlark Review The Singles

The latest releases rounded up...

Meadowlark seem to pop up when we least expect it, their music lingering for long after each visit.

Recently playing Dot To Dot festival, the duo then made a very special guest appearance at West London's much-cherished Bushstock event.

New EP 'Paraffin' is out now, and it's a work of blossoming maturity, the gilded lyricism matched against warm, effusive arrangements.

Clash invited them to review the latest releases – here are their thoughts.

AlunaGeorge – 'I Remember'

I love some of the production elements of this track, I feel like the song's strength really lies in the production and less in the song itself, but it's had me bobbing my head for three and half minutes so there's certainly nothing broken with it.

Aurora – 'Running With The Wolves'

I heard this track a long while ago and it made a lot more sense with the video. Aurora's personality is so intriguing, you can hear it in her songs so when you have a visual representation next to it you get a real sense of her artistry. I feel like this track and direction is a lot stronger than some of her more recent efforts.

Flo Rida ft Jason Derulo – 'Hello Friday'

Hello recycled pop formula.

John Joseph Brill – 'Kings'

A haunting 80's vibe that's full of intrigue and nostalgia. I really like that artists are rehashing production elements from a past era. We live in such a post modern world now where everything has been done, so why not take the best bits of the past and present them with a fresh song behind them. Great song.

Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir – '(Something Inside) So Strong'

I like what this song stands for, it's not something I could sit at home and rinse on repeat, but the NHS is such an important part of the U.K and so anything that promotes that in a positive sense has my vote.

Naomi Pilgrim – 'Sink Like A Stone'

I was umming and urring until the chorus hit, now I'm sold, it has a sparse and airy vibe that also packs a hard punch with it's beach and percussive melodies.

Paul Simon – 'Wristband'

Can Paul Simon do wrong? Some might say so, but not me. This cheeky little tune has a such a mish-mash of colours in it, I can't work out whether it sounds dated or way ahead of it's time, but either way I love it!
