Frances Reviews The Singles

In her usual charming fashion...

Frances is simply one of the most charming, self-effacing songwriters you'll come across.

Sure, the songwriting – and that voice – sit at the fulcrum of her appeal, but in the live environment it's that personality, that shy yet infectious charm, that comes across.

New single 'Don't Worry About Me' is online now, and it's a moving, glistening introduction to a talent who could dominate 2016.

With a new batch of tour dates set to open next week, Clash handed Frances the reins to our latest Singles Column – here are her thoughts…

David Guetta – 'This One’s For You'

Official anthem for Euro 2016… and in a different language. Can’t say it’s what I would usually listen to but it’s definitely unique. An interesting listen from D.Guetta…

Jean-Michel Jarre & Edward Snowden – 'Exit'

Feeling quite tense and on edge after listening to the first two tunes! Would be a great addition to any high intensity workout or some sort of bank heist. Or maybe an evening at a techno/trance rave. It has a very European feel to it, video is very fitting for the energy of the song.

Jake Houlsby – 'Carousel'

Not heard any of Jake’s stuff before but will definitely be looking out for more of it. Very relaxing with a distinctive summer feel. Love the simplicity of it!

Lush – 'Blind Spot' EP

Again, not heard of this artist before but another great discovery. There aren’t enough bands around currently! Just great, simple, indie rock with a female singer too, which is great. Would be a really good driving song or soundtrack in a film.

Luvbug – 'Best Is Yet To Come'

Really interesting to hear the lead singer from Scouting For Girls on a dance track. He has such a recognisable voice. That is him right?! Definitely another tune for summer in line with the other tropical house tracks that keep invading the charts. Makes me want to be on a beach with a cocktail already!

P!nk – 'Just Like Fire'

Have always loved P!nk’s stuff and this song is no exception. She always nails the feel good, sassy, pop punk anthems. Also cool that it’s the soundtrack to the new ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ film. Not seen it yet but after listening to this I think I might have to! Her lyrics and melody are always pretty instant!
