Vuvuvultures have come a long way since Clash first set eyes on them.
A vital, visceral collective, their blood-curdling performance in London venue The Lexington was enough to raise our blood temperature. Grabbing us by the lapels, tearing at our throat, the London group seemed to pose questions we'd never been asked before.
Releasing a number of singles, each release seemed to propel them further forward. Heading back into the studio earlier this year, Vuvuvultures opted to focus on a large scale project, on their biggest document yet.
Crafting their debut album, the band have pieced together 12 tracks which will make your toe tap and your skin crawl. Imbued with a rare intensity, 'Push/Pull' (Clash review) casts some Gothic shadows, dwells in some unsettling places.
Yet this isn't to suggest that this is some horrorshow, some psychological torture chamber. The rhythm section rips and pulls with a rare vigour, while the guitars slice with incisions and precision which is pretty damn rare round these parts.
Out on July 29th via Energy Snake Records, you can listen to 'Push/Pull' first on Clash.
Vuvuvultures are set to play an album launch show at London's Hoxton Hall on July 27th (buy tickets here) before play Rough Trade East on July 30th.
