For Clash's latest DJ Mix, we've called on the talents of a still-rising star, a DJ and producer who, since earning himself the accolade of 'Best Breakthrough DJ' in DJ Magazine's 2011 year-end awards, has only been on the up.
Subb-an, for he is the individual in question, is Berlin based but growing a global reputation. To date, he's released material on several labels of mighty fine repuation: Crosstown Rebels, Spectral and My Favourite Robot, to name three. He's also played the remixer role on tracks by Jamie Woon and Lana Del Rey. Nice work if you can get it. DJing since the age of 14, Subb-an is a regular at relevant clubs and festivals the world over.
One such booking is September's Unknown Croatia - an event running from the 10th to the 14th, and bringing together a wide array of live acts and DJs. Held in Rovinj, it's a newcomer to the festival calendar, but with a first-year bill featuring Disclosure, The Horrors, Jessie Ware, Jamie xx, Four Tet, Django Django, SBTRKT and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, it's setting quite the precedent.
Subb-an features on a DJ line-up that finds room for some truly outstanding names: DJ Koze, Scuba, Floating Points, Tiga, Todd Terje, Jackmaster, James Holden... Believe us, it's a bill to make your tongue flap.
And this mix, too, will likely set certain extremities waggling. Published to coincide with news of Unknown's first confirmed boat party - featuring DJ sets from John Talabot and Julio Bashmore, among others, and helmed by Bugged Out, Wax:On, 20 Years Of Kompakt and Beats In Space - Subb-an sets out to get Clash readers/listeners in the mood for the Croatian extravaganza.
