Before a tiny island show

The Charlatans aren't what you might expect.

So many of their contemporaries have gone down the retro route, de-valuing their music with countless anniversary shows and 'Britpop special' bills. The Charlies, though, are still pushing forward.

Booking up a summer of live shows, The Charlatans will drop by the Isle of Wight festival this summer. Last week, though, the band played to just sixty lucky gestival goers on Spitbank Fort, a former Napoleonic property accessible only by boat and completely surrounded by water.

Taking place just off the coast of Portsmouth, The Charlatans took the time before the show to chat with Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell.
