After yesterday’s inaugural Track of the Day from Maximo Park fella Duncan Lloyd – click HERE to listen to the man’s debut single for Warp, ‘Suzee’ – we’re upping the ante with a special double-header.
Secretly Canadian (website) is, basically, one of the very best independent record labels in the world, with a roster to (not literally, but you get what we’re saying) die for. On their books, now or then: Antony and the Johnsons, Richard Swift, Swell Maps, Damien Jurado, Jens Lekman, Catfish Haven, Magnolia Electric Co, I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness… need we go on?
The War On Drugs: The Boss fronting Animal Collective?
Sure! Because two of the label’s active-right-now acts are touring the UK as you read. Cosmic-rockers The War On Drugs (pictured) hail from Philadelphia and have been described as having a sound comparable to Bruce Springsteen fronting Animal Collective (what’s not to like about that?), and Bodies Of Water, from Los Angeles, deliver singularly spaced-out takes on something close to alt-country... meets prog-rock. Pretty weird, but definitely ace. Get a taste of each band by downloading the tracks below.
